Appalachian Oddities Market Brings Nearly 1,600 Visitors to Jasper, Georgia

The best events don't just entertain people for a day. They bring communities together, support small businesses, introduce visitors to new places, and create an economic impact that lasts long after the event is over. That's exactly what we set out to accomplish with the Appalachian Oddities Market, and the results of our inaugural event exceeded our expectations.

On Saturday, October 17, 2026, nearly 1,600 people attended the Appalachian Oddities Market in Jasper, Georgia, making our first event an incredible success. We welcomed more than 40 exhibitors representing eight states, bringing together an extraordinary collection of artists, makers, collectors, and small businesses from across the region. What started as an idea to bring something different to North Georgia quickly became a destination event that attracted visitors from well beyond Pickens County.

One of our biggest goals was to create an event that would bring new visitors to Jasper and generate meaningful economic activity throughout the community. With nearly 1,600 attendees, dozens of out-of-town exhibitors, and visitors traveling from across the Southeast, the Appalachian Oddities Market generated a significant economic impact for Jasper and the surrounding area. Visitors didn't just come to shop at the market. They also had opportunities to eat at local restaurants, visit downtown businesses, purchase fuel, and stay in area accommodations. While we haven't calculated an exact dollar amount, the influx of visitors represents a tremendous opportunity for local businesses and demonstrates the value of bringing unique events to our community.

The success of the market wasn't measured by attendance alone. Our exhibitors experienced an incredibly successful day, with strong sales, enthusiastic shoppers, and opportunities to introduce their businesses to an entirely new audience. We worked hard to curate a market featuring unique, high-quality exhibitors offering everything from dark art and handmade oddities to ethically sourced specimens, taxidermy, vintage curiosities, jewelry, and unusual collectibles. These weren't the same products visitors could find at a typical craft fair. Each exhibitor brought something distinctive, and the response from attendees showed just how much demand exists for events that celebrate originality and creativity.

Beyond supporting independent businesses, we also wanted the Appalachian Oddities Market to give something back to the community that welcomed us. Through our event raffle, we donated $450 to the Pickens Arts & Cultural Alliance (PACA), an organization dedicated to supporting arts and culture in Pickens County. We're proud that our first market could contribute directly to an organization that helps strengthen the local creative community, and we're grateful to everyone who participated in making that donation possible.

At Expedition Events, we've always believed that a successful community event calendar should offer something for everyone. Not every event needs to appeal to the same audience. In fact, we believe communities benefit when they embrace different interests and create experiences that attract new groups of visitors. Whether someone comes to Jasper for Jeep Camp, the Hometown Home Show, or the Appalachian Oddities Market, each event introduces people to our community and creates another opportunity for local businesses to benefit.

The Appalachian Oddities Market is a perfect example of what can happen when you identify something missing from the local event landscape and create an experience around it. We knew there was an audience for oddities, dark art, unusual collectibles, and independent creators, but we also knew that North Georgia lacked an event of this kind. The turnout, exhibitor participation, and overwhelmingly positive response confirmed that people are willing to travel for unique experiences they can't find everywhere else.

None of this would have been possible without our incredible exhibitors, sponsors, staff, attendees, and the support of Chattahoochee Technical College and the Jasper community. Bringing together more than 40 exhibitors from eight states and welcoming nearly 1,600 visitors for a first-year event was a tremendous undertaking, and we're grateful to everyone who helped make it happen. Special thank you to our main sponsors Salon 84 and The Wall Street Barber, we couldn’t do it without you!

We're incredibly proud of what the inaugural Appalachian Oddities Market accomplished, but we're even more excited about what it represents for the future. We brought something new to Jasper, created opportunities for independent businesses, attracted visitors from outside our community, and supported a local nonprofit along the way. That's the kind of impact we want every Expedition Events production to have.

Our mission has always been about more than simply putting on events. It's about creating what's missing, bringing new opportunities to our communities, and building experiences that make a difference. The Appalachian Oddities Market proved that even an unconventional idea can become something extraordinary when the right people come together.

And if this first year was any indication, we're just getting started.
